Can you feel the first burst of Spring?

first burst of spring

For us in the Northern Hemisphere – I know it’s cold – but can you feel the first burst of Spring? I can.

Have you noticed that the evenings are getting lighter? When I left work on Monday evening – I was really surprised to see that it was light outside. I’ve got daff’s pushing through in my garden and once again notice little buds and flowers bursting through.

I love Spring, it put’s a smile on my face and brings me joy. Makes me feel abundant and happy.  Good feelings are great because when you FEEL good the Universe sends you MORE goodness.

The world around us is stirring and awakening from the sleepy, wateriness of winter. And we transition to an energy of awakening, growth and warmth.

We shake off the Kaptha (slowness and sluggishness) and move into a pitta (heat).  It’s a time when people often get colds.  So with yoga our practice becomes more vigorous and we create more heat.  But not too much over exertion.  Lots of forward bends and some twists.  Kryias that move congestion from our respiratory system will be taught directly in class.

Ahh I love spring!  The new life, the energy of the Universe, the awakening.  It’s my birthday month too.  Happy memories.  Love it!

What about you? What do you love about Spring? How can do you use Spring energy in your life?  Do you change the way you eat? How about your spiritual practice?

A Perfect Day

A Perfect Day

I was inspired to write this post after reading Reba Linker’s book called Imagine Self-Love.  It’s a great book and really gets you thinking.  The journal prompts are pretty deep and truly hit the spot.  In the book she talks about taking a mini vacation on the path to self-love when this is what is needed.

Reba writes “Today reconnect with happiness, joy, ease, pleasure, relaxation, and these delicious holiday feelings, even in the midst of your busy life.

Saturday was just a lovely, perfect day.  The sun has been shining, the sky was blue, the air was crisp. And if you stood in the right place, or put your face at a certain angle – the sun was actually warm on your face – like really warm.  Considering this is January in the UK, really warm is good.  Trust me!

While I was waiting in my car between teaching yoga classes; I looked up and just caught this tree and the branches. And I admired how the sun caught the trunk of the tree. And once again, I marvelled at the abundance of the Universe!  Look at all the branches!

Something clicked.  You can have a ‘Perfect Day’ in but a moment.  It’s those moments that you can build and make everything just be ok.

Having the sun on my face for me is just lovely.  It always makes me feel happy and content. And somehow, I feel like it’s a message from the Universe that everything is going to be alright.  What makes you happy?  Best of all, what makes you happy that is free and simple.  You don’t have to pay anything to love yourself.

Heart-List

And it’s one of the things on my heart-list. You can read about my heart-list here.   Basically, having a heart-list is having a list of 20 things that you love to do and trying to squeeze those things into your day to day life as much as possible. Read the blog and make sure that you have your own HEART LIST written down somewhere. And make sure you do them things as often as you can.

Self-Love

It’s a form of self-love.  Loving yourself.  Treating yourself to a small bunch of flowers.  Spending a few moments taking in the sun, breathing deeply, feeling grateful in your heart before marching on.  Reba encourages us to take a staycation, enjoy a relaxing bath or if we do go out to carry as little as possible and have not agenda but instead to follow the flow.  I like this and I try to do this every so often (although not often enough).  So that Saturday was my little version of a staycation.

Reba asks us to journal on how we feel at the end of the day after we have gifted ourselves this space and time.  And you know what? the vibe of that second yoga class and the energy was amazing!

How do YOU feel about self-love?

New Moon Intention Setting Love

I am seriously excited about the New Moon phase for February 2016!  In the UK this falls February 8th 2016 at 1440 in the sign of Aquarius.

Do you feel like you need a fresh start?  Well February’s New Moon is a time to re-focus on your goals and set intentions in a more wholistic and brighter way where we envision the bigger picture.

For those of you (like me) who may feel that there just wasn’t enough time in January to set intentions and connect with goal setting.  Well this New Moon in February is the ideal place to start.

New Moon

The New Moon has a powerful energy which you can use to set your intentions for your dreams, desires and goals.  Use her energy to support you.  The dark side of the moon is mysterious and just like how ideas, seedlings and a baby grows and gestates in the dark, so to do your ideas, dreams and goals before they come forth into manifestation.

It’s a time when we can re-connect, re-fresh and re-establish our goals and dreams.

New Moon Ritual

It’s good to set aside some time each new moon phase to focus on your intentions and goals.

Remember, by working with this energy your wishes have more wings – and you might fly!

The energy is powerful, what you say you want you might just get.  So be careful what you wish for as the saying goes!  Be intentional about it.

  • Find a quiet space.

  • Light a candle or some inscence or burn some white sage to clear the space of any negative energy.  You can also use a feather or ring a bell to clear energy.

  • It’s good to start by taking a few breaths to center yourself and your energy.

  • Play some beautiful music

  • Writing your goals down always has more power.  Suggest you get a journal to keep note of your desires.

  • List all  your desires, they could be bigger things or small.  It’s great when we manifest the smaller things too.  Don’t forget to show appreciation when you receive the smaller things as well as the bigger things.  When we receive from the Universe it’s always good to show appreciation so that the Universe knows you have the capacity to receive more.

  • Don’t worry if you have a lot of goals or just one or two.  All is fine and perfect.

  • Speaking your goals out loud adds fuel.  Let your words be a catalyst to bring your desires from un-conscious to consciousnes.

  • Know that your desires WILL be manifested.  Get into the feeling place of having received your goal in advance of actually receiving it.

Each New Moon revisit your goals in your journal.  Cross off what you have achieved.  Re-write your goals that you have left on a new sheet of paper.  Refine your list too because your dreams and goals change as you do.

When it’s time for the Full Moon, then that is a cycle for manifestation.  This is when you can add ‘meat to the bones’ of your ideas and dreams.

What can you do right now to prepare for the upcoming moon phase to set or re-connect with your goals and dreams.  Set aside time and prepare using the ritual outlined above.

It’s a cycle – so you have time to perfect and refine for next time.

If you are coming to the New Moon Intention Setting Vinyasa Flow Yoga Workshop with me we will work through this together and I will prepare a container for our sacred space.

Share with me in the comments below what YOU do as a New Moon ritual.  What do you do to prepare for achieving and manifesting your goals?

My Meeting with Amma

photo-1442570468985-f63ed5de9086

I had previously missed meeting with Amma both times that I was in India.

So I was really excited when I learned she was going to be in London.  And towards the end of last year I finally got to meet her.  It was at Alexander Palace in London.  Amma is known throughout the World as Mother or Guru and I received Darshan (a wonderful warm, loving hug from her) {this is what she is famous for}.  I’ve wanted to meet Amma for a really long time so it was a great sense of accomplishment to be able to cross this off my ‘list’.

I first heard about Amma back in 1999 in India.  Lots of people at the Ashram I was staying at were travellers (obviously) and there were always tales of places that they had been to and people they had met and lots and lots of gossip!  So I heard about Amma’s Ashram and the other yogis told me how westerners would que up for a really long time and then finally get to meet Amma who would give this beautiful hug which would be really emotional for folks and then they usually start crying like a baby – and all this other stuff.  Always, I’m not sure why I didn’t make it to see her whilst I was there but anyways it didn’t happen.

So I turned up at Alexander Palace on my own, received a ticket and wondered inside.  The atmosphere was pretty subdued (compared to the Om Yoga Show where I had been just a week before).  There was lots of stuff for sale and the people selling it (in my opinion) just seemed really different.  I felt a bit like I was in Goa or someplace.  Lots of Westerners wearing Indian clothes and selling hippy sh*t.  I felt a weird mixture of scared and belonging!

During the long almost overnight wait with my ticket in hand, I was able to meet and chat with some wonderful people, eat some wonderful Indian food, there was even a place where you could practice yoga!  The trip inspired me to make an Indian dishes since then.  One of which is fried cauliflour.  And you can get the recipe here.

After about 10 minutes walking around, I got talking to a Scottish guy with a pony tail who was standing with two women.  They were just three of the many volunteer organisers.  They were really friendly and explained the process to me.  They told me what would be happening and I showed them my ticket.  They estimated that it would probably take till 2-3am in the morning before it would be my turn to receive Darshan.  It was already 6.30pm as I had gone their straight from work.  So I told them, no there is no way I could stay till that time and in any case I would need to get home via public transport.  They were like “don’t worry about it – stay all night that’s what we are doing – everyone will be doing it!”  They chimed.  I didn’t realise this.  It’s like a traditional thing that folk stay all night with Amma at these events.  So I started to worry a bit.  How would I get home?  My 3 new friends advised that often once it all starts someone would be be willing to exchange tickets with me (especially if they are already staying all night).  Straight away one of the two ladies piped up that said she was prepared to swap with me.  Excellent!  However, this was only going to save me about 30 minutes.  Still – something and I felt closer to fulfilling my dream of receiving Darshan from Amma.

But deep inside I thought I would just stay only so long and then I would go and miss my opportunity for the actual hug from Amma after all.  Anyways, I wondered about a bit more.  Checked out more hippy sh*t; didn’t buy anything.  Quoed up for some food as it looked like I would be eating my dinner there that night.  Phoned my husband, let him know to eat without me.

After a long wait in the food queue and just as the person in front of me was to be served the service was abruptly stopped.  “Sorry, we have to stop serving –  “Amma’s coming!  Amma’s coming!”  People started to walk out of the queue and I was about to do the same but just then the chef came out and said – it’s ok – I can take a couple more!”   So me and the lady behind were served after all.  Great!  Things were looking up!

IMG_3385

I sat down on one of the tables to eat – and it just happened to be in front of the entrance (although I didn’t notice this when I first sat down).  So I was one of the first to see when Amma walked in.  The atmosphere was electric and people stopped and wondered closer.  Amma went to the stage in a fanfare.  The music got really loud and it was exciting.

I had finished eating by then so I took my seat in the audience (saved with my coat luckily); and a Puja was performed.  Amma gave a talk although she spoke in Hindi.  There was an interpreter of course.  An Indian gentleman with an amazingly rich and deep voice.  And the talk was absolutely amazing!  Really beautiful stories about being grateful and graciousness.   It was fantastic!

Everyone’s chair had a little plastic lid (I didn’t know what that was about); but after the Puja volunteers came round with little cups of water, that had been blessed during the ceremony.  The lids provided were for the little cups and we were told we could drink the water or take it home to share with family.  I took mine home and my hubby and son couldn’t wait to share it with me the next day (which was really lovely that they were so enthusiastic!)

Anyways, I thought great!  I got to partake in the Puja and I got some blessed water.  I won’t be able to stay.  When would I finally be able to get my meeting with Amma?

Stay tuned to find out what happened next in a further blog post.

How about you?  Did you achieve a goal that you really wanted last year?  How does it feel when you achieve your goals?  How do you celebrate or mark the occasion?

Fried Cauliflower Recipe

IMG_3391

Inspired by meeting with the wonderful Amma known throughout the World as Mother and Spiritual Guru where I received gorgeous Darshan from her; a wonderful spiritual hug.  It was an amazing experience and you can read about it here.

I attended on a special date of course, the 11th of November 2015.  11:11.  Angel number.  These number has come to mean a lot to me on my journey, and yes, I feel another blog post coming on.

What I didn’t realise that most of Amma’s devotees stay all night and I wasn’t prepared for that.  But the wait was long and it was grace that got me home just in time to get the last tube home.  (Like I said – you can read all about it here).

I also ate indian food and sweets which was a lovely treat.

Fried Cauliflower

This recipe is inspired of my meeting with Amma and also reminds me of my time in India.

Ingredients

1 medium organic cauliflower

Olive oil for frying

3 tbsp gram flour

½ tsp paprika

1/2 cumin seeds

Salt & Pepper

Method

Cut the cauliflower in to florets.

Bring water to boil and then add the cauliflower for approximate 2 minutes

Heat the oil in a frying pan (should be deep fried-ish); although I don’t tend to deep fry anything

Remove the cauliflower from the water and then coat in gram flower which has already been prepared with the added paprika a little salt and pepper.

Fry the coated cauliflower for approximate 4 minutes

Sprinkle cumin seeds just before you remove the cauliflower florets from the oil

Place the florets on kitchen paper to soak up excess oil

Enjoy!

Follow Your Heart (in a grounded and practical way)

Do something today that your future self will thank you for.-2

So recently I wrote about knowing your big why and how I find ‘following the flow’ helps me to move out of a funk and know what direction to go in.

And then you haven’t heard from me.

Well the reason is because I listened to my guidance.  And I was advised to rest. I have been tired; really tired and keeping on going wasn’t working for me.  So I tuned in to see what I needed to do.  All I was given was one word (that’s often how intuition works).  That word was ‘rest’.  So I took a bit of a break from the laptop and just took my foot off the accelerator a bit.  I retreated inwards.  Stopped asking for external input.  Trusted myself.

So I had a Sunday where I bought the paper, read through it and (almost) snoozed on the sofa.  I spent a bit of time actually looking into my families eyes when they spoke and practiced being present for them.   (As opposed to peering at them over the laptop).   In fact, I kept away from the laptop mostly.  Then on  my way to a yoga class that week; my eyes caught on a tube station right near the end of the Central Line.

Theydon Bois in Epping

Many years ago I read a novel (crime fiction) where the main character was always hanging around Theydon Bois.  And for some strange reason I had always wanted to go there and just take a look around. (Not because of the crime bit you understand)   Have you ever had that?  (You know when you see a station at the end of a line everyday and you always wonder what’s it like there?)  Anyway, I decided right there and then that after class I would return via the central line – pass my stop and continue onto Theydon Bois. Because I could.

Grounded Way to Look at Following Your Heart

I am writing about this because this is a real life, grounded way that you can follow your heart.  It’s the simple things.  It doesn’t have to be anything huge and life changing.  It can be as simple as doing something different that takes you out of your normal routine.  Nothing ground breaking happened when I was in Theydon Bois.  It was nice.  It was peaceful.  It was villagy.  I saw some horses and some greenery.  I sat at a cafe outside in the sunshine and I bought a coffee and pastry.  I read a little, relaxed and breathed.  When I came home I felt satisfied and refreshed.

After refreshment comes clarity & creativity

After refreshment of mind, comes clarity and ease.  A few days later and I am feeling more aligned, more alert, more ready.  People, ideas, help and assistance and circumstances have landed directly on my lap.

Now some of those people and circumstances were already there.  It’s the ability to SEE it and ACT on it.  That is what comes from  listening to your guidance and following your heart and creating space.

How do you listen to your guidance and follow your heart?  Let me know in the comments.

Oh – have you heard about my new E-course?

Your Big Why

yourbigwhy

Your Big Why

Do you ever think about your big WHY?  That is, why you do what you do?  If you are in business why did you start it?  what do you aim to get out of it?  What does it mean to YOU?  REALLY MEAN.  TO YOU.

If you have passions or something that you do ‘on the side’ – what is it that made you choose that?  If you are in a career – what made you choose that career or job and what is it that makes you happy about it?  (if it does?).

I think it’s good to think about your why.  And I feel like it’s also a good idea to re-visit your WHY too.  The reason is because it changes.

Breathe

So right now, take a breath.  Inhale, then exhale.  Make the sound Ahhh.  Really check in with yourself and your big WHY.

Think

If you have passions or something that you do ‘on the side’ – what is it about it that you love?  If you are in a career – what made you choose that career or job and what is it that makes you happy about it?  (if it does!)

I think it’s good to think about your ‘Big Why’.  And I feel like it’s also a good idea to re-visit your ‘WHY’ from time to time too.  Because it changes.  And sometimes we move away a little bit from the core of our ‘Why’.

I  have re-visited my why and here is what I have come up with:

I am an energy worker and natural healer.  In 2013 something changed and I couldn’t live the way I had been living any more and I wanted change.  Also, I had this huge like psychic awareness thing happen to me, where I suddenly got like a download of information and I knew all this STUFF.   Those feelings eventually passed through – but it left me knowing without a doubt, that I had to LEARN more, DO more and BE more.

Who are You & What Makes You – You?

And I just KNEW I had to do things differently going forward.  I wanted to learn all I could about intuition and I started to follow and eventually became a student of Sonia Choquette.  I’ve met her twice and taken her training in Chicago.  When I first met her, she called me an intuitive and grounded coach – that’s where I got the name for my business!  I realised that I had to get back to doing work that I loved like teaching yoga, energy and working with the Law of Attraction and positivity.

Sometimes the road is not clear ahead as to what direction to go in.  Do you ever find that?

For me, I have found that ‘following the flow’ helps.

What helps you?  Please comment below and let me know.

Oh – have you heard about my new E-course?

Yoga Poses in Autumn

abstract-21118_1280

Have to say yoga has been absolutely dreamy these last few week! I’ve been working on bringing an internal fire into the practice to heat up the immune system for this time of year where there is change of weather. The Vata energy is so prevalent right now cold, dry, light and unsettled. Windy.    This is reflected in the physical body as well as in the mind.

The yoga poses in autumn that you can incorporate into your practice are listed below:

Asana Practice

Practice poses such as half-spinal twist, bow, bridge, seated forward bend, shoulder-stand, camel, warrior I, II and III and sun salutations.  These asanas all serve to bring that internal fire which helps to ward off colds and build immunity.

Foods

Also, at this time of the year eat warm foods, warm soups, warm teas of fresh ginger and avoid raw veggies and salads.  Apples are good to aid elimination.

I had a bit of an upset tummy last week which lasted a few day and at first I didn’t associate it with the change in season, that is until I had one cup of ginger tea which calmed it right down.  And I remembered the above information.

IMG_3134

The yoga practice last week was particularly warming and fire-y.  You might find that you feel dreamy and spaced out after practice.  And with the super moon and moon energy of this week just gone, the practice for this week has been way more famine and yin-based.  You may feel emotional as well as dreamy.   This is fine and all is good.  Take good care, rest and drink plenty of water.

Namaste!
